A compensation technique to generate enhanced return loss and directivity is proposed by using additional branch lines for a broadside coupler. The branch lines at all ports are added to reduce the port impedance, resulting in improvement of impedance matching for the tight coupled broadside coupler. The measured results of the proposed low‐temperature cofired ceramic (LTCC) coupler show more than 4 dB enhancements of return loss and isolation, compared with those of the conventional one. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
