One branch‐on‐substrate‐back structure for band‐notching ultrawideband printed ellipse slot antenna is presented, which is for the 5.8 GHz band band‐notching. The band‐notching frequency is done easily by tuning the length of the branch. The article also analyzes the current distribution/fields, and proposes an LC‐in‐series model to explain the band‐notching structure. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
