A compact dual‐mode patch filter was designed and examined. Five pairs of slots and a pair of meander spurlines were applied to redirect the current flow on patch resonator, thus the resonance frequencies of the filter are reduced. Moreover, a computer‐aid design (CAD) method using radius base function neural network (RBFNN) is proposed to optimize this new filter. Measurements are given to verify this design and methodology. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
