A coplanar waveguide (CPW)‐fed triangular monopole antenna with two loaded strips for ultra‐wideband (UWB) operation is proposed. The effects of both loaded strips to the triangular patch and embedded notches to the ground planes are analyzed and optimized to obtain the UWB performance. The proposed antenna experimentally reaches a −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 8.21 GHz (from 1.84 to 10.05 GHz) covering the band requirements of broadband or multifrequency communication systems. And, good monopole‐like radiation pattern and antenna gain have also been obtained. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
