This letter presents a new high‐gain microstrip structure with three rectangular patches on bottom layer and one patch on the top layer. A parametric study is presented on the effect of the parasitic patch and using an air gap between the feed patch and the ground plane. The measurement results show that the impedance bandwidth of the antenna is 62% centered at 14.5 GHz, and the measured gain of the antenna is more than 8 dB over most of the bandwidth. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
