A novel design of dual‐band monopole antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications is presented. By using dual L‐shaped strips, the impedance bandwidth of 5 GHz band is significantly increased. The measured impedance bandwidth for −10 dB return loss is from 2.28 to 2.70 GHz (16.9%) and from 4.52 to 6.28 GHz (32.9%), covering the 2.4/5 GHz WLAN operating bands. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
