In this letter, an efficient multidomain pseudospectral method is implemented to solve leaky waveguides. The exterior subdomains with the evanescent and oscillatory mode shapes, the optical fields are, respectively, expanded by Laguerre‐Gauss functions and Legendre polynomials incorporating simple Mur's absorbing boundary condition. Numerical results verify the effectiveness of the present approach and are in good agreement with exact data. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
