Abstract A novel comb compact microstrip resonant cell (CCMRC) is first developed. The compact configuration presents ultra wide stopband and excellent slow‐wave characteristics. A UWB lowpass filter, consisting of three CCMRCs connected in series, is designed and fabricated. The proposed filter has the merits of low insertion loss in the passband, sharp, deep, and wide rejection in the stopband and compact size. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
