A novel band notched UWB antenna for USB dongle application is demonstrated experimentally and numerically. By embedding an ellipse cutting in the antenna's radiator, an ultra‐wideband property is achieved. To create a band notched characteristic, stub lines are employed in the antenna. The antenna is printed on the top portion of the ground plane, and can be considered as a circuit board of a practical USB Dongle. The dimensions of the antenna are 12.5 mm × 13.5 mm. The antenna has a notched band of 5.15 to 5.84 GHz while maintaining UWB performance. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
