A discrete‐time, second‐order notch filter is employed to study the microwave bandstop filter. By equating the system function of the second‐order notch filter to the transfer function of a serial line shunted with an equal‐length, two‐section open stub, simple and explicit expressions dictating the bandwidth and center frequency of a microwave bandstop filter are obtained. Experimental results are presented to illustrate the validity of this design method. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
