A compact microwave lowpass filter with three transmission zeros is designed using the defected ground structure (DGS). The microstripline section above the DGS region is modified to obtain remarkable slow‐wave and bandgap effects. An equivalent lumped L–C circuit model is presented. Reasonable agreement among the simulated, modeled, and measured results is obtained. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
