A novel ultra‐wideband (UWB) bandpass filter (BPF) is proposed and implemented by using a four‐mode resonator, which has four resonant frequencies within the passband of the filter. By enhancing the coupling between the resonator and the input/output feed lines, an UWB BPF with six transmission poles is realized, although only one resonator is utilized. To alleviate the requirement on fabrication precision, aperture‐enhanced coupled lines are introduced to replace the parallel‐coupled lines in the filter. The fabricated filter exhibits good performances and the measured results show good agreement with the simulated results. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
