New techniques are described for the FDTD analysis of radiating structures mounted on infinite planar dielectric substrates. These techniques are the near‐field‐to‐far‐field transform and the total‐field/scattered‐field boundary, or the plane‐wave injector. For demonstrating the use of these techniques, a practical ultra‐wideband antenna on an ungrounded dielectric substrate is analyzed. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
