A simple method of the calculation of the crosstalk between two polarization multiplexed channel in an optical fiber link including polarization dependence loss and polarization dependence gain is presented. This method allows a significant simplification of the calculation of crosstalk in polarization multiplexed transmission systems. The analytical results are compared with numerical results. This comparison gives good agreement. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 49: 2915–2918, 2007; Published online in Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com).
