In this article we describe the design and performance of a waveguide‐fed corrugated surface wave antenna for use in the 57–62 GHz V‐band wireless communication band for HD video hook‐up. The antenna dimensions are calculated using standard closed form leaky‐wave formulae for infinitely wide corrugations. The actual structure which has finite corrugations is simulated using HFSS with good agreement to measurement. The final structure has a mid‐band return loss of −8 dB and the antenna, exhibits ∼4.2‐dB gain at 60° above the horizontal plane. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
