A novel ultra‐wideband (UWB) bandpass filter (BPF) in the whole UWB passband of 3.1–10.6 GHz using a distorted uniplanar compact electromagnetic band‐gap (DUC‐EBG) unit cell is presented. This DUC‐EBG unit cell is acted as a multiple‐mode resonator (MMR). To model the DUC‐EBG unit cell, an equivalent L–C circuit is used to analyze passband characteristics of the proposed filter. Its design is dealt within this letter and the one‐ and three‐stage BPF are implemented. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
