Formulations to determine the resonance frequencies of hexagonal and half hexagonal microstrip antennas have been proposed based on their equivalence with circular and semicircular microstrip antennas, respectively. The new configuration of half hexagonal patch formed by bisecting the full hexagon along its resonant length, has the same resonance frequency as that of the full hexagonal patch, with half the size. Simulations and experiments have been performed to validate the proposed method. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
