A novel stacked helix antenna with vertical lines is presented for broadband operation, and the impedance and radiation characteristics of the antenna are investigated. The proposed antenna achieved a bandwidth of approximately 34.2% with an S11 < −10 dB, which covers the DCS, PCS, UMTS, and WiBro bands. Omnidirectional radiation patterns are obtained for frequencies across the operating bands. Moreover, in discussion of the experimental results of the constructed prototype, the electrical characteristics of the proposed antenna appear to be attractive for mobile terminals and repeater applications. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
