In this letter complementary split ring resonator is proposed to design compact highpass filter. Highpass filtering is obtained by overlapping a left‐hand and a right‐hand (RH) transmission band. A fabricated prototype filter having cut‐off frequency (f c ) of 1.8 GHz shows a maximum passband insertion loss less than 1.3 dB up to 3f c . Implementing area of the filter is smaller than 0.08 λ g × 0.09 λ g , λ g being the guided wavelength at f c . © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
