A novel ultra‐wideband (UWB) stacked microstrip patch antenna suitable for UWB application is presented in this article. This compact and planar proposed antenna is found to have a very broad impedance bandwidth as compared to the conventional electromagnetic coupled antenna. The proposed antenna is able to achieve an impedance bandwidth of about 101.8% for VSWR less than 2, centred at around 7 GHz. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
