A novel fractal bow‐tie antenna fed with CPW is presented in this letter. The proposed antenna consists of a Sierpinski fractal bow‐tie patch placed on one side of the substrate and a coupling slot dipole placed on the other side. The geometrical parameters of the antenna are optimized for best performance at 5.2 GHz. The proposed antenna has been fabricated using printed circuit board (PCB) technology. Although the antenna is fabricated on a low dielectric constant substrate, its size is still remarkably small (16 mm × 16 mm). The antenna has been characterized both theoretically and experimentally. The measured and calculated results are presented, compared, and discussed.© 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
