Considering applicability to the analysis of holey fibers with random air‐hole arrangement on a transverse plane, finite‐difference time‐domain, and finite difference method (FDM) techniques are proposed to evaluate the transmission properties such as normalized propagation constant, chromatic dispersion, and effective area. Results are in remarkable agreement with the published data. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
