A simple and novel technique to produce a switchable erbium‐doped fiber laser is proposed and demonstrated. The wavelength switching is achieved by changing the input pump power. The lasing lines are stable for more than an hour at room temperatures. The effects of separation between the lasing lines and the length of the erbium‐doped fiber on switching are explored. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
