In this article, a novel feed line for harmonic suppression of a slot line hairpin bandpass filter (BPF) is presented. A T‐shaped microstrip feed line is proposed for excitation of the filter. This feeding structure produces frequency‐dependent external coupling that is used for filter upper stopband extension. A fabricated three‐pole filter having centre frequency (f 0 ) of 904 MHz shows 29 dB upper stopband at least up to 6.6f 0 , while implementing area of the filter is less than 0.65λ g × 0.31λ g , λ g being the guided wavelength at f 0 . © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
