A novel H‐shaped dual‐frequency microstrip antenna has been investigated. This novel microstrip antenna is considered to be composed of two microstrip dipoles, which resonate at the antenna's two operating frequencies, respectively. The resonant frequencies are predicted. Return loss, radiation patterns of the antenna have been investigated numerically and experimentally, and good agreement is achieved. Furthermore, the size of the antenna is more compact than conventional H‐shaped antennas. Then a modified H‐shaped multi‐frequency microstrip antenna is proposed. Simulation and experimental results are also presented and discussed. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
