This paper presents a new CPW‐fed monopole antenna, which is composed of two stacked circles with different radii. This novel structure reduces the dimension and improves the impedance bandwidth dramatically. The measured bandwidth defined by VSWR <2.5 is from 3.15 GHz to 27.5 GHz, i.e., a ratio of about 8.7:1. This proposed monopole exhibits a nearly omni‐directional radiation pattern with very compact size and simple structure, which is suitable for various military and commercial wideband applications. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
