A novel substrate‐integrated waveguide resonant cavity with four‐arc corners has been investigated, which is constructed into the thin dielectric substrate. The theoretical length equivalence formulas for the resonant cavity have been obtained on the basis of analytical method of moment. It has been found that the resonant frequency can be kept constant when the shape factor of the cavity is small. On the other hand, the resonant frequencies of the cavity can also be tuned a little when the shape factor of the cavity is big. The empirical formula of resonant frequencies for the cavity with arc corners has been obtained. Several resonant cavities with different radius of arc corners have been designed and fabricated to demonstrate the proposed theoretical analysis. Good agreement can be observed between the theoretical analysis and experiments. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
