In this paper, a new method for the solution of inverse scattering by dielectric circular cylinder is proposed. The original problem is recast into a regression estimate one by means of a regression technique based on the use of support vector machine. The proposed method, after a proper training procedure, is able to reconstruct the unknown dielectric objects and their dielectric permittivities inside a given investigation domain. Numerical results show the accuracy and efficiency of the approach. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
