In this paper the influence of optical filters on regeneration performance in self‐phase modulation (SPM) based regenerator is investigated experimentally. The center wavelength offset of the spectral slicing filter is optimized for achieving best performance. The Amplified‐ Spontaneous‐Emission (ASE)‐removing filter is critical for creating clear off‐center spectral region and making signal regeneration feasible. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
