A compact CPW fed planar inverted conical antenna with coplanar ground embedding the radiator has been studied with regard to its suitability for the UWB transceivers operating over 3.1–10.6 GHz. Performance of planar inverted conical antenna embedded in a similar shaped ground plane is compared with the planar inverted conical antenna having ground in plane with the radiator. Results from the simulations have been validated through experimentations. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
