A new implementation of “complex frequency‐shifted (CFS)” perfectly matched layer (PML) is introduced for the alternating direction implicit finite‐difference time‐domain method. Because of the use of auxiliary differential equation (ADE), this new implementation is more straightforward and memory saving. Numerical results show that the absorption of CFS‐PML using ADE as well as that of CFS‐PML using convolution integration formulation is suggested earlier. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
