A compact broadband circularly polarized (CP) microstrip antenna is proposed, in which a square patch printed on the dielectric substrate is fed by a Wilkinson power divider through two orthogonal H‐shaped slots. Comparing with the conventional broadband CP antenna with an air or foam layer, the size of this antenna is reduced significantly and its fabrication is easier. The 10 dB return loss bandwidth of 45.9% and 2 dB axial‐ratio CP bandwidth of 17% were measured. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
