A technique that compensates the excitation of an array with the mutual coupling between the elements is presented. The coupling is expressed in a matrix form. The rows of the matrix are defined with the help of the orthogonal method. The technique has been applied to linear arrays with parallel and identical elements and seems to be suitable for beam‐forming of antenna arrays even with small interelement distances. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
