A new transition from coplanar waveguide (CPW) to slotline is introduced in an ultra‐wideband (UWB) tapered slot (printed) antenna (TSA) for receiving arrays. The difference between the UWB antenna‐array pattern and the conventional narrowband antenna pattern is clarified. The energy pattern and peak amplitude of the receiving waveform are used to characterize the behavior of UWB receiving antenna arrays. Patterns in the H‐plane are measured through an oscillograph; due to the difficulty of installation, the E‐plane pattern is not measured. The results indicate that the array can be used in the practical UWB radar for receiving antenna arrays. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
