The design, simulation, and experimentation steps of a novel low‐cost, small‐size microstrip electromagnetic dual‐band bandgap (DB‐EBG) structure is presented. The numerical simulations are performed via an in‐house‐prepared 3D finite‐difference time‐domain (FDTD) package and the experiments are carried out using an Agilent‐8714 ES network analyzer. The simulations and measurements confirm that the dual‐stopband characteristics can be controlled via the stub parameters. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
