This paper describes a complete low‐cost radiating structure, combining a stacked wire‐patch GSM antenna, with an active GPS printed element located on the top of the GSM one. The GPS active amplifier and filter are located under the ground plane of GSM antenna and receive the DC bias voltage through the GPS coaxial probe feed. GSM antenna is a low‐profile, large‐bandwidth antenna with a dipolar radiation pattern. This structure, totally protected by a low‐cost dielectric radome, is very suitable for automobile applications needing a very small ground plane. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
