Bilinear approximation is employed to implement the perfectly matched layer (PML) absorbing boundary condition in the alternating direction implicit (ADI) finite‐difference time‐domain (FDTD) method. Numerical examples show that this implementation is effective and unconditionally stable. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
