This paper investigates the characteristics of the modified meander‐line‐type patch antenna for the 5‐GHz band. Its design was based on a modified meander line width and shorting pin with coaxial feeding. Its maximum measured impedance bandwidth (−10 dB and below) reaches approximately 1.64 GHz (4.765–6.405 GHz). Radiation patterns at different frequencies are also discussed, and the measured gains are about 5.74 to 9.09 dBi. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
