In this paper, the design of a new broadband printed antenna for wireless applications is presented. The proposed antenna structure consists of a planar monopole fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) and four strip sleeves. With the integration of these parasitic elements, a wide bandwidth response is achieved. The antenna is designed at the operating frequency of 2.8 GHz, and a parametric study is also performed in order to optimize its operating bandwidth. To validate the design, an antenna prototype is fabricated and tested, and good agreement between the simulated and measured results is obtained. The experimental results show a bandwidth of 49.3%. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 48: 209–212, 2006; Published online in Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com).
