A planar ultra‐wideband antenna with a band‐notched characteristic is presented. By inserting a C‐shaped slot on the elliptic radiating patch, a notched frequency band is created. The slot length contributes to both the notch center frequency and notch bandwidth, while the slot width contributes mainly to the notch bandwidth. It is easy to design a specific notch‐band range by adjusting the slot size. The details of the proposed designs and the experimental results for the constructed prototypes are presented. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
