A reconfigurable circularly polarized antenna is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a microstrip feed line, a ground plane with two slots, and a radiation patch. Bifurcating the microstrip feed line into two branches allows the polarization to be switched by opening and shorting the termination of the line using an anti‐parallel diode pair. The design of the proposed feed structure for polarization‐diversity operation is discussed, and switching between right‐ and left‐handed circular polarization (CP) is demonstrated with cross‐polarization discrimination of greater than 30 dB. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
