An all‐optical wavelength conversion of a 10‐Gb/s nonreturn‐to‐zero signal is demonstrated by using absorption modulation in a Fabry–Perot laser diode. A continuous‐wave holding beam is incorporated in order to enhance the operation speed of the proposed absorption modulation. The experimental results with and without the continuous wave holding beam are compared. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
