General models of optical‐fiber‐bundle displacement sensors are presented and their design and implementation are described. They are applicable to various bundle configurations and light sources. Moreover, they can be easily expanded to any combined bundles. A double concentric fiber‐bundle sensor is constructed for verifying our developed models. Good agreement between the experimental and theoretical results shows the theoretical models are accurate. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
