In this paper, the magnetic near‐field strength above the microstrip line (MSL) is measured and used to estimate the currents flowing on the MSL. This back transformation (inverse problem) of the currents is calculated numerically by applying a Green's function. The validity of this method, which estimates the currents above the MSL, is confirmed by comparing the measured and calculated results. Good agreement between both results is observed and the validity of this method is confirmed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
