A novel multilayer microstrip bandpass filter is proposed in this paper. The filter is constructed on two substrates with multislots on the common ground plane overlapping two microstrip stubs. The realization of these filters is confirmed both numerically and experimentally. From the calculated and measured results, it is observed that low insertion loss and a good matching characteristic in the passband can be achieved. Furthermore, the out‐of‐band rejection performance of the filter may be improved by varying the number and parameters of slots etched on the ground plane. As a result, this kind of filter may have wide applications in multiplayer microwave integrated circuits (MICs) or multilayer printed circuit board (PCB) design. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
