In this paper, a head‐equivalent phantom is designed to match the human head in an EM simulation. Compared with a commercial phantom, the requirements for simulation time and computer memory are greatly reduced using this phantom. As an example, a PIFA operating at the ISM 2.4‐GHz band in the presence of the phantom is designed and studied. This design is numerically validated by comparing the simulated results (such as return loss and radiation patterns) using this phantom with the commercial phantom. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
