This paper presents the analysis of a plasma whip antenna using the frequency‐dependent finite‐difference time‐domain ((FD) 2 TD) method. The return losses of the plasma whip antenna for different plasma parameters are computed and various dielectric effects on the plasma antenna are investigated. The numerical results show that the plasma whip antenna can offer a promising alternative to the traditional metal antenna when the plasma frequency is much higher than the operating frequency. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
