A broadband 40‐GHz coherent source, which utilizes supercontinuum (SC) generated in highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) with large normal dispersion is investigated for the first time. In order to enhance the SC generation in the HNLF, a new scheme that applies the chirp‐pulse compensation technique is presented and confirmed by the theoretical and experimental results. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
