An all‐plastic optical‐fiber level sensor for point measurement has been developed. The device detects the presence of various liquids by measuring the intensity variation of a green‐light signal, back‐reflected by a special tip‐shaped fiber probe. The experimental setup is described in detail and some results and test measurements are discussed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
