A coaxial‐fed monopole antenna coupled by dual dielectric resonators (DRs) is presented. Optimal bandwidth up to 1160 MHz (33.4%) can be obtained by adjusting a suitable distance between DRs. The influence of wire height, the distance between DRs, and the size of the ground plane are investigated. We find that in such coupled DRs, the wideband performance limits the height of monopole, and a distance smaller than 10 mm between both DRs can result in wideband impedance matching. If the ground size is over 90‐mm square, the antenna bandwidth is stable and approaches to 800 MHz. Additionally, the radiation patterns of an electric monopole antenna mounted on the finite ground plane are analyzed. The antenna gain with dual DRs seems 1‐dB higher than that without DRs. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
